The primary use of this go pro will be to document (trough video) a backpacker trip to Asia and South America, which will include hiking, surfing and hopefully some adventurous sport activities. Do you have any recommendations? Also, this is my first go pro, maybe you have written an article on how to make full use of go pro for beginners?
The camera itself seems a lot more modest about its superiority. With only minor physical tweaks, the Hero4 Black looks little different from its predecessor – but inside it packs professional features and greater processing to justify its position as the top-of-the-line GoPro, priced a full £300 more than its most basic sibling.
On the side is the MicroSD card slot (up to 64GB), a Mini USB port for charging and now also external USB microphones plus a Micro HDMI port for direct video output.
Thanks for the comparison between the black and silver. It was extremely helpful. Looks like I’m going with the silver and will be very happy with it. The money I save will go towards a battery or two.
However, there’s plenty on the Hero9 Black for the all-rounder. As well as upping the resolution to 5K for video, it increases photos to 20MP and adds the ability to capture 14.

That’s key because the touchscreen on the Hero9 Black itself – while bigger in size – isn’t as responsive as it could be, and is fiddly to use.
This is far from ideal since the recipient will hear your audio about two seconds before seeing your lips move because of the delay in the video feed I mentioned earlier.

GoPro sent me a radio-controlled car to test this out, and I drove it through the roughest stretches of the woods around my house. The resulting video looks like it was shot on a professional gimbal; it really is that smooth.
To setup your GoPro as a webcam, you’ll need a couple of pieces of gear. One you might have kicking around (HDMI ) and the other one you’ll probably have to pick up.
At 1080p, the Black can shoot at up to 120fps, while the Silver maxes out at 60fps. And there’s also a difference in the video compression. The Black can record its video up to a 60MB/s bitrate, compared to an upper limit of 45Mb/s with the Silver.
Connect the camera to a computer with the included USB cable. Insert the mini end into the camera, and the other Leia Aqui into the computer.
